Can it be Thursday already?
So I loved... well, not exactly every moment of this episode, but it was close. Most of all, I think I love the fact that at this point, we can't really tell whether the big bad's going to be Lucifer... or Michael. I'm still hoping that Michael is going to be awesome, because it's Michael and I am a hopeless fangirl, but I could so easily see everyone turn around and team up with Lucy later, so IDK.

Okay, so let's start by doing this by character, I suppose.

Cas (and Dean):
So frakking sincere and literal, it's adorable. Loved him replacing Sam in Dean's life schemes, though I suspect that Dean will have second thoughts next time, because the angel just doesn't know how to lie. Or be remotely competent at anything but smoting. Wait, no... he's not competent at smoting either.

I almost regret having already seen the clip of where Dean decides to go get him laid, because I'd have died laughing then (just as I did a few days ago when I did see it). Cas' attitude towards sex there (cautious but somewhat defensive terror) and his attitude in the actual brothel (fullout DEN OF INIQUITY) don't feel exactly the same, but there's a world of difference between "meaningful" sex and prostitution, and Dean totally should have known better than to take him to a frakking whorehouse. XD Baby steps, darling. Baby steps.

As entertaining as that entire scene was, it did make me more than a bit uncomfortable, because coercive sex is not okay, and Dean was doing just about everything except literally twisting his arm. Still, an angel's still an angel and it didn't work out (Cas llkes his broken people, doesn't he?), so I am okay with it. And Dean finally enjoying himself again... man, those two are so good for each other (except when they're not).

Sam: Okay, so that felt superfluous. I like Sam, but his methods of self-reflection kind of suck. Go off to the Himilayas or something, Be like Dr. Franklin from B5 and have yourself a walkabout. Though Lucy made it worthwhile.

Raphael: Seemed perfect. None of Zachariah's false humanity (which was awesome there, but wouldn't have been here), here we've got just pure, unadulterated archangel. The power, the wrath, the utter alienness. I'm still hoping for more from Michael, just considering who Michael is, but that felt like an archangel. Also, thank you for the Nietzsche quote.

Lucifer: I love you more everyday. There are no words. Raphael had better damn well be right about you raising Castiel, because hell, yes. I had been expecting that Lucifer's vessel would end up being Sam, since preparing a host for Lucifer seemed much more plausible a goal for Azazel than just getting someone with the power to kill Lilith, so I'm glad to find that it's true. I would be so amused if Lucifer and Michael do take over the brothers at some point, because... that's the only thing that will ever bring me anywhere in the ballpark of shipping Wincest. XDDD My OTPs that carry over from other fandoms, let me show you them.

Lucy, I love how calm and borderline passive, and yet how damned certain you are. It works so very, very well.

And the last few minutes...

I might not like season 1, but I love the parallels here between it and s5. The theme of the son searching for the father has revived, taking a turn for the truly Biblical, and I feel like in the end, it's really the same thing. I like the blind faith Dean started to show at the end... he might not believe in God, but he's already deified the concept of the missing father, so when Cas' quest is rephrased in a way that he can truly, truly understand (lost son searching for the father everyone else believes to be dead), it's more than that he's willing to put aside his cynicism for a moment. His atheism just doesn't matter, because a missing father simply must be found, and failure isn't an option.

Also, I am looking forward to next week way too much. Oh, Castiel.

Speaking of next week, have you seen this clip? OH, CAS.

Dean empathizing with Castiel and encouraging him to go find his Father is one of my favorite Dean/Castiel moments ever. The boy & his angel ♥

OMG, no, I hadn't. XDDD

The image of Cas just standing on the side of that road for the next four hours, ahahaha. ♥

THIS ISN'T FUNNY, DEAN, THE VOICE SAYS I'M ALMOST OUT OF MINUTES. He sounds so angry and almost panicky ahahaha SO MUCH LOVE.

There needs to be fic about Castiel's four hours by the roadside; the catcalls, the cop pulling up to question him, etc...
Rhaella: Saffron - Fireflyrhaella on September 26th, 2009 09:11 pm (UTC)
Haha, that was "the voice?" XD I wasn't sure if I was misreading it, but seriously, someone is much too used to being a messenger of the Lord.

There needs to be fic about every bizarre Cas related thing that's happened so far, but yes, definitely that. XD

He needs to get propositioned at least once.

The voice of God has become the voice on the telephone telling him he's out of minutes. XD It's been a strange year for Castiel.

Once or several times, even. :D
Rhaellarhaella on September 26th, 2009 10:11 pm (UTC)
I now have this picture of Cas wandering up to random people asking, "Are you my God?" Poor lost child that he is. xD

Hahaha, now I almost wish he has some strange surrogate god in the next episode.

How else is he going to do it? He has a necklace that burns hot in the presence of God. He should be holding it and flitting everywhere.

XD Well, he does have a statue of Buddha on his altar in his love shack.
Rhaellarhaella on September 26th, 2009 10:19 pm (UTC)
Exactly, with the Buddha. Though, actually, the presumed shift to Buddhism is very interesting, what with pure Buddhism being a nontheist religion that doesn't really give a damn whether or not a god exists. That could suggest a really interesting mental shift for Cas, though whether it's him sincerely not caring anymore or just trying to not care...

WTF is up with that necklace anyway? I'm half tempted to say no way to it and just believe that Cas has gone batshit and just wants Dean's personal items or something.
srs bsns: adam personal jesusibroketuesday on September 26th, 2009 10:23 pm (UTC)
Either way, it's going to be an interesting episode. Heavy on the crack, of course, but also intriguing in pondering just how Castiel got to the point of Buddhism, drugs, and orgies. Because that's not very... Cas-like.

XDD

"You need my what to find God?"
"Your underwear, Dean. Give them to me."
Rhaellarhaella on September 26th, 2009 10:27 pm (UTC)
I am psyched for it. Which is kind of bad, because my priorities on Thursday should not be spending all day after class waiting for SPN without getting much of anything done, but they are.

SPN is so very good at interesting, sometimes intellectual crack. I don't know how they do it, but they definitely do.

Hahaha, poor angel's too terrified of sex to ask for the underwear. xD A random priceless article of emotional significance problem is his equivalent.
srs bsns: castiel if you know what i meanibroketuesday on September 26th, 2009 10:46 pm (UTC)
Ah, yes, Thursday priorities. #1 is DON'T MISS SPN and #2 is MANFULLY RESIST READING REACTION POSTS BEFORE IT AIRS ON THE WEST COAST.

I love the way they can combine total crack with srs drama. It's ~beeyootiful~

Well, then, it's clear what the step up from the necklace is:

"Dean, give me your car. It turns hot pink in the presence of God."

Or, failing that, he should take Dean's leather jacket and wear it.
Rhaellarhaella on September 26th, 2009 10:54 pm (UTC)
Haha, I just wish I had someone fannish to watch it with right now, because I just want to gush over it while watching.

Oh, god. If the car turned hot pink, Dean'd be getting it out of there ASAP and keeping it as far away from God as possible. xD
srs bsns: castiel dean squaredancingibroketuesday on September 26th, 2009 11:09 pm (UTC)
I watch with two non-fannish folk, and it can get difficult to bite back the squees sometimes. Last episode I was biting my cheeks to keep from grinning.

Yes. He would be like FUCK THIS, CAS, WE'RE LETTING THE DEVIL WIN.
Rhaella: Castiel/Dean - SPNrhaella on September 26th, 2009 11:21 pm (UTC)
The concept of non-fannish folk watching SPN boggles the mind. xD It is, like, the epitome of cult TV, no two ways around that. (I was watching an episode of True Blood -- which is fairly ridiculously cult itself -- with a couple of non-fannish guys; it was the most awkward thing ever.)

HE WOULD. And Cas would stare at him in uncomprehension. Noncomprehension. Whatever.
srs bsns: castiel dean squaredancingibroketuesday on September 26th, 2009 11:24 pm (UTC)
They don't really watch with me, more like they're occasionally in/around the room while it's airing.

Incomprehension? XD
Rhaella: Ruby -SPNrhaella on September 26th, 2009 11:27 pm (UTC)
In incomprehension. There you go. xD

Occasionally, hm? Haha, then that doesn't count. Have you sat them down and showed them Castiel's first scene yet. I'm less than a month into my first year of school here, and I've already done that to two people. :D
srs bsns: castiel hug me?ibroketuesday on September 26th, 2009 11:34 pm (UTC)
I have not. I'm not sure the show would be their kind of thing.

This is an excellent review.

I really, truly enjoyed this episode. I could've lived with less Sam or a different storyline leading up to that final scene but I didn't hate what they gave us.

And I'm not really involved in the Supernatural fandom but even a casual viewer like me had the Sam-as-vessel thing figured out. Still, it was an awesome scene:)
Rhaella: Ruby -SPNrhaella on September 26th, 2009 09:15 pm (UTC)
Yeah, I guess it was pretty clear, but then there was an actor who was going to play Lucifer, and I was all, "but, wait, what? Why is this random man his vessel now!?" So yay.

(I'm not involved in SPN fandom either, aside from fairly secondhand contact with Misha fandom via ibroketuesday. The rest of it scares me half to death. xD)
